Satellite View of the Korean Peninsula
The Korean Peninsula is located in Northeast Asia, bordered
by China and Russia to the north and facing Japan to the east and south.
Since 1948, the 221,487 square kilometer peninsula has been divided roughly
along the 38th parallel into the Republic of Korea in the south and the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the north. The Korean Peninsula
is quite mountainous, and the surrounding waters are a major source of
livelihood and recreation for the Korean people.
